Stress and regret are some of the worse feelings, especially when you’ve become compliant with listening to the negative thoughts in your head – they can become a detrimental snowball effect, that results in you loosing a part of yourself; of your aspirations, if you let them.
I currently have a lot on my plate, trying to get things done so that I can participate in commencement next month, graduate in the following months, and figure out my future. This has led to an extreme amount of stress. And in addition to this stress, comes a lot of regret. Regret of not being more proactive. Of not doing more.
And for the past couple of weeks, I’ve started to have these negative and poisonous thoughts – “this is going to be really tough. I can’t do it. I’ve failed. I’m just gonna have to finish up everything in the summer, (instead of trying to knock out one or two things right now).”
No! This mentality is so dangerous!
I almost decided to give up and sink, rather than fight and swim. I was becoming scared of life, of the future, of the unknown, instead of embracing life and becoming excited about the future.
Ironically, when I went to my class after beginning this post, my professor shared this incredibly powerful video (below) that will make you rethink your obstacles, and give you inspiration and determination to go get what you want, or what you need to do.
*Heads up: Get your tissues ready
Start at 0:55 for Dick & Ricks’s incredible story.
So, will you sink? Or will you swim like Dick & Rick?
