If you’ve been following the recipes for a while, you’ll notice I don’t really put exact measurements; that’s because I measure by sight and taste. Years ago, I never would have thought I would be doing this.

Before I came to college four years ago, (where I developed a passion for lifting and cooking), I used to not step a foot into the kitchen unless I had a recipe to follow. My past experience with cooking was trying to make something quick and easy- which contained little whole foods; I didn’t enjoy the taste of most vegetables. I found onions, anything green besides a few select veggies (such as peas, green beans, iceberg lettuce) to be repulsive, and would pick them out of my food. I would follow recipes, like lasagna, off of the lasagna noodle box, and would feel proud of myself. I didn’t have the confidence or the creativity to make my own dishes like I do today.

Now when I cook, it’s more than just trying to satisfy my hunger- it’s trying to make something healthy and flavorful.

I crave and desire fresh veggies in my dishes- veggies that I used to hate.

If you want to start eating more wholesome, my advice is to open your mind to trying the things you dislike. If you’re around my age, your taste buds have more than likely matured by now, and over time, as you introduce new veggies and flavors into your meals, you will more likely that not, begin to enjoy and crave them. Just keep an open mind and keep exploring new things.

Fitness and food go hand in hand. Together, they will empower your body inside and out, to be the best it can be.

Until next time- eat good food, laugh and smile, and kill it in the gym! 💪
