Current State: March

I haven’t been posting like I originally anticipated and hoped, because this last semester of mine has been CRAZY! With the passing of each day, I am amazed (and also scared) of how fast each day flies by, mostly because I still have so much to get done before graduation. Agh!

As you may have read in my last current state post, back in February, I was debating between two cameras to start a vlog with. Well, I recently purchased a Canon t6i and I’m super excited about it; however, I am also frustrated because I am not able to really use it at my campus’ gym- they have a strict policy about filming where you have to get permission. It would have been perfect had I purchased this baby months ago, when I was still going to Gold’s (R.I.P.). If this was a smaller, less conspicuous camera it wouldn’t be as much of a problem, and I might be able to get away with it more, but I am hesitant to use it during certain times, because I don’t want to get kicked out of our gym.

Anyways, back to the main point of this post. Around 128/129 lbs still. I have started to implement more cardio, about 3-4 times a week, for 10-20 minutes at the conclusion of my workout. At LU, we have a self-propelled treadmill, called the Curve, that I enjoy using. It doesn’t hurt my foot as much as pushing myself up the stair stepper does, because of, well, the curve in the Curve haha, (I’m still dealing with issues of sesamoiditis). I am not sure how accurate their calorie tracker is, but I do work up a sweat and I am already seeing a difference from the cardio- more definition and it’s getting me excited! One of the best feelings from fitness is when you start to see the changes in your body that you want- getting closer to your goals. It’s so rewarding and self motivating!

I am on the fence about doing a competition this summer. Doing a bikini or figure competition is something that I have wanted to do since I started lifting a couple years ago- to gain that experience and challenge myself. The main reason I am hesitant in committing to doing a show is because I don’t know where or what I will be doing this summer- whether I will be in the midst of completing an internship or actually beginning a career. Only time will tell I suppose.

Had a hard time getting decent pictures of my lower body. May update this post with better ones soon.

Anyone else going to start leaning down in preparation for summer, or thinking about doing a show?

  1. I’m telling you, August 20th, NPC show in Virginia Beach.! You need to try it. I know you have hesitations, but it would be better to try your hand at it now to see if you like it rather than when you’re full time in to your career or internship.

I told klcfit to maybe expect a message from you, she would love to answer any questions you have.

Another reason it would be perfect, you’ll have friends to push you every step of the way! Even when getting ready to go on stage!

    1. Okay Connor, I talked to klcfit! Looks like I need to do some research surrounding the different federations and stuff.
It would be cool to do it with the Gold’s crew! 🙂

  2. I always used the college gym while there. I found I could not bulk up without the cardio and still stay toned. So cardio became very important in the whole scheme of things and still does.
You will probably slide into what you will pursue after this based on the greater of your interests. Try not to get too scientific about life. Move to where your passion is and this usually positions you best in the direction in which you will be successful.
The best to you in your endeavours.

    1. Yeah, cardio is definitely important. And that’s my goal – whatever I end up doing, I want to enjoy it; so to me, it would be ideal if it were pertaining to fitness.
      I appreciate your wishes! 🙂

  3. Hello! I just started reading your blog (new to the blog world!) and am happy there are other college girls out there reaching out to help themselves and others. I am not professionally into health and fitness, however am a college grad student trying to get back into a more healthier lifestyle. I am graduating with my MA this year and going on a cruise this summer and want to be in better shape for it.
Anyways, I like the idea of doing cardio at the end of lifting work outs. Usually I start with cardio (the whole idea of getting your heart rate going), but then being to tired after it to do a full out lifting session. I will have to try out doing more cardio after lifting instead of before as a burn out thing.
Thanks for the updates! Interested in following more of you (in a not creepy way haha)

    1. Hi Rachelle!

Thank you for reaching out! It means a lot to me when people like you share that you have found my blog to be of help or applicable to you. 🙂 I feel like there is so much BS out there in the fitness industry, especially on social media, and it’s extremely deceptive to those who are trying to make adjustments with eating better and/or working out.

Congrats on almost finishing your MA! I am currently trying to finish up my last semester of undergrad, and like you, am also planning on going on a cruise this summer! 🙂 I’m super excited, and it is also a huge motivator to kick butt in the gym in preparation for it, as I’m sure you feel too.

I prefer to finish with cardio rather than start with it for the very reason you stated- you feel kinda tired (or weaker) when you start with cardio prior to weights. If you wanna get your heart rate up before diving fully into weights, you can do a few warm up sets before (if you aren’t already), with little to no weight depending on what exercise you’re doing.

Thanks again for reaching out. 🙂

      1. Totally makes sense. And yes, I’m finding out more and more the myths out there! I follow a lot of fitness pages, mostly to flood my news feed for more motivation before getting distracted lol. Do you have a transformation story page or beginning stage on your page? Just curious how you started out! Are you doing fitness professionally or just as a personal side experience?
Thanks for the re-follow and support!

        1. Rachelle,

I share my story with how I got into lifting on my “About Me” page. I do plan on sharing more pictures and information surrounding my transformation from over the years very soon- within a week or so. It is actually something I have been meaning to do, so thank you for the extra nudge. 🙂

Fitness started out for me as more of a personal hobby- I am studying Strategic Communications at my school, which is composed of advertising, public relations, and digital media. Sometimes I think that I should have declared something in health, whether it be exercise science or something else, to have the accreditation. But, my major is definitely applicable in many ways. When I graduate, I aspire to do something that is a combination of both. That would be ideal to me and I know I would enjoy it. 🙂
